A sign that is always on becomes wallpaper. A sign that appears the moment a forklift approaches does not.
SpectroSIGN Smart Systems pair industrial LED projectors with directional motion sensing, so the right message appears at the right moment — and nothing is projected when the aisle is clear. The sensors distinguish vehicles from pedestrians and direction of travel, which means the system can show one message to a forklift driver and a completely different one to someone on foot, in the same doorway, seconds apart.
We have been engineering these since before the category had a name. Our earliest projected sign installation has been running continuously in a working automotive plant for over twelve years, with no service calls and no parts replaced.
Three configurations we build
Smart Dock — vehicle-triggered
The problem: a drive-in door where trucks reverse in and people walk through the same opening. Nobody sees anybody until it is too late.
What we build: a proximity sensor detects a truck breaking the plane of the doorway and triggers a no-pedestrian projection onto the dock floor. Clear when the door is empty, unmissable when it is not. Typically mounted around 20 ft for a 15 ft door.
Best for: distribution centres, food plants, any building with drive-in or dock doors. This is our most-requested configuration and the fastest to specify.
Smart Crossing — single-direction
The problem: forklift traffic passing an area where people work or walk, with no practical way to install a physical barrier.
What we build: directional sensors detect a pedestrian in the adjacent area and project a stop or no-forklift message into the vehicle path. A single 150W projector covers a walkway of roughly 22 ft by 3.5 ft from a 32 ft mount.
Best for: production areas, converting lines, any aisle that runs past a manned station.
Smart Intersection — bi-directional
The problem: a genuine crossing, where pedestrians and vehicles both have right of way at different moments and each needs to be told something different.
What we build: sensors on both approaches, driving two projection states. When a pedestrian is present, stop signs face the vehicle traffic. When a vehicle is present, a full projected walkway and a no-pedestrian message appear instead. Six projectors, two directional sensors and custom control logic, engineered to your geometry.
Best for: main aisle intersections, blind corners between departments, high-traffic crossings in heavy industry.
Why projection, and why sensors
Painted lines get scuffed away by forklift traffic and have to be reapplied. Tape lifts, curls and fails under washdown. Adhesive floor signs will not bond below freezing. A projected sign never touches the floor, so there is nothing to wear out — and when the layout changes you move a projector instead of repainting the plant.
Adding sensing changes what the sign means. A permanent marking says a hazard exists here. A triggered projection says the hazard is here right now. That is the difference between signage people stop noticing and a warning that still works in year five.
